I was encouraged, from age zero, to do my duty. I was led to believe that only losers got swept away by such pretentious things as their passions. Strong women took care of their obligations, completed all their chores, and if they had time – they took care of their looks.
Well. Unless your passion is related somehow to doing the laundry, that’s a great recipe for getting a lifetime Prozac prescription.
So.. I am here to encourage you to do the opposite.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, how much money you have, or what is your domestic situation. I urge you to start pursuing passion and desire. Not just because it’s good for your mental health, but also because everything and everyone in your life will benefit from it.
Because there is no way that this right here, is who and all you are. You are not just this one-dimension person who likes to handle all her obligations, watch a video and go to sleep. There is so much more in you, that needs to be expressed, explored, and celebrated.
Many people think that in order to live a life of passion and meaning you need to leave everything behind, take a big leap or win the lottery. But, as a woman who actually did all of that (except, sadly, winning the lottery.. ) I can tell you that you don’t need any of these.
You can turn your life upside down with 5 min a day of pursuing something that you feel passionate about.
You know that. You don’t need some prestige university research results to tell you how much it can help with every aspect of your life. Your mental health, your sleep, your skin, your self-esteem, your sex life, your relationships, your parenting, your productivity at work, and even your ability to finish all your daily chores…
In other words, what you need more in your life is discoveries, trying new things, getting lost sometimes, meeting new people, and getting out of your comfort zone for a bit.
Put down the laundry basket. Throw away your list of chores for today. Make yourself your favorite beverage. Sit down, breathe and make a list of all the things that make you feel alive.
Now schedule to do at least one of them, for at least 5 min. Every day.
(don’t worry, I will take you through every stage and every step to make it very easy and reachable in just a moment).
My experience showed me that, like many things in life, it all comes down to practice. if you start small, you will slowly gain the knowledge and the experience to be able to follow and pursue every passion and every dream that you have, from the smallest “how do I want my mornings to be”, to the biggest “which hotel in Bali do I want to book” and so much more.
But… you need to start somewhere.
